Maddie's Zebra Print Birthday cake

For Maddie's 9th birthday cake, she wanted a Zebra print with hot pink trim. Mom was the brains behind this work of art. I helped some until I just couldn't stay awake any longer! And I think we're trying to hit a record on how many trips to the store we can make for one cake (heehee). Black frosting is *very* tricky we learned. You first start out with homemake chocolate butter cream frosting, which is brown of course. Then you can add black tint (paste, not liquid) - lots of it, which then only turns it dark purplish-gray, but we learned that if you take that and let it sit for about an hour or so, it will darken to black. Strange huh? We don't understand it but it works, so we're not questioning it, right Mom?!
Mom made the cupcakes on her own and they were super yummy with pink and white butter cream frosting.
And here I am ready to sample one! mmmmm

Megan and Gavin's 6th birthday cakes

Gavin's cake was white cake, buttercream frosting, decorated in a frog theme. The lily pads turned out nicely, it's a yellow-green tinted buttercream frosting. Mom has a new grass tip that she used to make the grass around the edge of the top layer. Some chocolate candy was used to accent the tall grass on the cake and Gavin provided the plastic frogs to top the cakes. Happy Birthday Gavin!
Megan's cake was a chocolate cake (actually devil's food cake), buttercream frosting, decorated Hello Kitty theme. Mom was the brains behind cutting the Hello Kitty head. It was a 9 x 13 that we cut in the shape of her head. Needless to say, we had some chocolate cake chunks to eat :) There are pink dots around the sides of the bottom layer. Used black jelly beans for the eyes, a sour patch candy for the nose and black licorice for the whiskers. The bow and face of the kitty, used the star tip on all that. Happy Birthday Megan!

Seth's 11th Birthday Cake - UK

Mom, Kayla, and I made this cake for Seth's 11th Birthday party. It was pretty easy to make once we got it planned out where we were putting the letters. It's two 9 x 13 cakes, one white and one devil's food, side by side with buttercream frosting, blue and white of course. Happy Birthday Seth! We love you!

Chase's graduation cakes

My little brother Chase graduated high school! We are so proud of him, congratulations Chase!
Here are his cakes...

They turned out pretty good :) The "book cakes" are 13 x 9 chocolate cakes, slightly offset to make them look like school books. Then a round cake tops them off for the bottom of the graduation cap. The square top of the cap is just cakeboard covered with frosting. I got the tassle from the craft store. The frosting was all homemade buttercream, chocolate, white, and blue tinted. On the white edges of the books, I took a butter knife and scored the icing to make it look like pages. Congratulations Chase!

Chocolate TIMES THREE!

The other Girl Scout moms and I split up the baking jobs for this year's Court of Awards Ceremony. I made the cake for the girls going into Cadettes. They requested chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, and chocolate chips! WOW! So, it's a devil's food cake, homemade chocolate buttercream frosting with Hershey milk chocolate chips generously sprinkled on top. I also put a small wooden bridge (Randy's idea) on the cake to signify the girls bridging from Junior Girl Scouts to Cadettes!

ALOHA!

The girls have so many of the same friends that they celebrated birthdays together this year and invited their Girl Scout friends over to our home for a luau!
Mom and I had fun with this cake! Our usual yummy buttercream frosting tinted blue for the water with some Goldfish crackers floating around and then crumbled graham crackers for the sand with some cute beach umbrellas!
The girls loved this party theme. They played the limbo outside, Mom made delicious fruit smoothies that they drank out of coconut cups and of course they had flowers in their hair and a lei around their neck :)

Mallory's other 10th Birthday cake

When we had family over for dinner and cake for Mallory's 10th birthday, she requested cake in the shape of her new age! One was white cake and the other was devil's food - both with blue tinted buttercream frosting - Mal's favorite color. The dots were made of marshmallow fondant which was very yummy! Normally fondant is just gross, but this recipe was wonderful and we'll be using it again!!

Mallory's 10th Birthday Cake

I haven't been on this blog in a while (oops!) - time to catch up... because we HAVE been baking! :)

For Mallory's 10th birthday, she requested white cake with homemade chocolate buttercream frosting - which is just as good as it sounds!!

Will's Wiggly First Birthday Cake

Mom and I made Will's first birthday cake. It was huge. Not only was it the Wiggles, it was wiggly - LOL. The frosting was buttercream except for the dots, which Mom made marshmallow fondant for. Mom did most of the work on this one. I helped to bake and got the cakes stacked and frosted with her. She did the writing and the cupcakes - I had to leave because her house got too cold! She kicked the air up so the buttercream frosting would stay firm - the cake board was too big for her frig! We had fun as usual. It was a late night as usual. And the cake turned out really well! :)

Yummy Ducky Cake

I just couldn't resist putting this on my blog. Here's Austin enjoying his first birthday cake. YUM! I think he likes it!! :)

Rubber ducky, you're the one!

For Austin's 1st birthday cake, he had a rubber ducky theme, which was fun to make and I think they turned out cute! Mom was sick so I made these cakes pretty much by myself. Mallory helped with some of the mixing :)

The cake was all white, large layer on the bottom with 2, 8" layers on top. Frosting was homemade buttercream (of course) tinted blue. I made the "bubbles" out of buttercream frosting too using a wide round tip. The bar of soap was a rice krispy treat that I frosted to match the cake.
Austin's Mommy provided all the cute little duckies that topped off the cakes. The small cake was the cake that Austin literally DUG into! I think he enjoyed his first taste of cake! Happy First Birthday Austin! We love you :)

Disco Cake

For Lindsey's 8th birthday, 2/13/2010 -- she wanted a disco party, so her cake was kind of a disco ball. We made two round-ish cakes and placed them one on top of the other. They were devil's food cake. The frosting was homemade butter cream frosting tinted pink/purple with edible silver glitter sprinkled on. We wrote "Happy 8th Birthday Rock Star" on the cake.

We made lots of yummy cupcakes and as you can see, Lindsey was pretty pleased!
The punch is the best! Lindsey requested it and every time I make it, none is leftover! It consists of vanilla ice cream, orange sherbet, pineapple juice and orange juice (NO Sprite or ginger ale!). It is so yummy!!
Happy Birthday our baby girl!
