Topsy-Turvy Cake

For Mallory's 13th Birthday, she wanted a topsy-turvy cake.  Making this cake seriously reduced me to tears at one point.  First of all, most topsy-turvy cakes are covered with fondant, but we like the taste of buttercream better, so I changed it.  Then actually sculpting the shape of the cake was very challenging to say the least.  I stayed up most all night doing this cake while Randy kept me company and encouraged me.  Thankfully, Mallory loved it - which is all that mattered anyway.  Happy 13th Birthday sweet Mallory Lanette!

Mom did most of the work on this incredible superhero cake for Will.  I love the green fist on top!  Great job Mom :)

Happy Birthday Mom

For Mom's birthday yesterday, I made one of her favorites, a pig-pickin' cake! Also called orange marmalade cake. I've never made one before but it turned out yummy!! The cake batter has mandarin oranges mixed in and I drizzled loads (maybe too much?) cream cheese glaze over the cake. Happy Birthday Mom, I love you!

Co-Op Christmas Bazaar

Buttercream wreath on a red velvet cupcake!

Cute Santa hat cupcake

Love the bow on this one!

SPRINKLES!

On December 7th, 2012, the girls' homeschool Co-Op had their annual Christmas Bazaar.  It was great!  Several families set up booths, even some kids set up booths, with homemade items to sell.  There were handbags, fresh mistletoe, handmade jewelry, knitted items, homemade breads and jams, homemade soap, salsa, cards and of course... CUPCAKES!  I made close to 100 pretty festive cupcakes, put each one in a clear cup and wrapped it in a cellophane wrapper.  Mom made some pumpkin roll slices that got swiped up pretty fast!  And don't we look cute in our matching cupcake aprons?!  Thanks Mom for your help at the Bazaar, it was fun!

Nancy Drew Cake

Mallory and a good friend are working on their Girl Scout Silver Award.  Theirs is a literacy project and for their last workshop, they did a Costume Party where each girl dressed up as their favorite book character.  There were some great costumes and fun games.  Here is a picture of the cake I made for their event.
